Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca had an extraordinary life and there is plenty more to find out about it. In the autumn of 2003
Dr Goodwin was able to spend two months at the Archivo General de Indias in Seville, thanks to a British Academy grant. Transcriptions
and translations of a significant number of documents newly identified for the first time are being made available here. An
initial discussion of their significance is offered in this article.
